I love J's solos, they always take a left turn and send you in a different direction but never go outside the lines.
Whenever I see the speaker Mike Johnson on tv I think of this bass player
Stupid
Audio wont go up far enough!
Ahhh......my youth ❤
never seen j so energetic lol
every live recording of this song is perfect and the way murph hits those drums is something else
Mano!!! Houve uma época em que haviam bandas Punks de verdade!!!
This might be the best versions of these songs that exist
100% agree. there is also recording from this same session of them playing thumb, get me, and budge which are also fantastic
I was in 9th grade when I heard the live version of this song on Whatever’s cool with me. Changed the way I thought about guitar (I play by ear mainly). J made it cool to shred in the era of no-wanking. (Cue Sinatra…) and did it his way.
J’s solo is soul crushing, yet beautiful at the same time which is exactly how a guitarist should play
I get teary eyed every time I hear this guitar solo
I got this in my 151 punk lp collection. The Depressions are my favorites!!!@
there first two albums are essential, once ed left how can anyone replicate his guitar sound and speed.
as a guitarist ed kuepper has the right hand of the devil ,he leaves johnny ramone in the dust
Totally !!!
That.Was..Beautiful....(teardrop falls)
Oh yeah
Even though it literally fueled his main other band’s (Sebadoh) entire existence for well over a decade, it’s still so hard to believe DJ spent the vast majority of their prime years as a band without Lou in the lineup. Glad he & J finally kissed & made up.
This exact vibe is the essence of why I love this band
Murph up there with the best of the best drummers. This is a really sweet representation
I agree. Murph is a beast
I wish Dinosaur were still mixed this way. At some point J's guitar became more noise then tone and they have somehow forgotten to put Murph in the mix these days.
i agree, the mixing in this is perfect
Because of this song I can take on the world. I love you J!
La grande époque !
I know this chick, her name was Sheila. She was the best thing that ever happened to J. We both got our fingers stuck! I'm hey man, where's your Thumb!?
The strings really went out of tune
If you saw this when it aired you KNOW it! He may as well have been playing a flaming dynamite chainsaw. I still can't handle it.
This band has gotten me through some tuff times
Tight?
It's insane they were the best ! Never got the cred better than all 90s bands. They get better they fade away !
Others fade ! They grow !!
Who is that bassist? That's not Barlow
Mascis looks like Tiny Tim
I bet that sounded so chunky and massive in the room Update; just saw them live in Auckland last nite and can confirm they play really fucin loud 💯
this shit so hard
5:26 is just epic, beautiful noise.
Mascis causing the whammy bar to scream like children- it does sound really good, no doubt.
This wails so hard
Hard to say, but maybe one of my favorite Dinosaur Jr songs.
Man my youth - where did it go - you don’t realize what you had till it’s gone… life is so fleeting….
I saw these guys in ‘93 amazing guitarist - magical
Que puta belleza
We had so much good music in the 90’s
Modern day blues song
Woah that tone!!!
Budge is a killer tune
I just sped read the best part of Walter Lures book. When he joined the Heartbreakers and we’re going nowhere in New York even tho they were basically dominant players in the scene. So they get kinda tacked on to the Anarchy Tour in ‘77 with Lee Black Childers (who is an old Warhol Factory hand and former Iggy Minder for Bowie) as their Minder/Manager. The very day the Heartbreakers flew in to England, the Pistols dropped the F-Bomb on daytime TV and destroyed most of the dates on the tour. But the Heartbreakers stuck it out. None of them had overpowering smack habits at the time luckily because there was none to be had. The youth in England were sick and poor living in squats doing cheap speed which was fine with the Bass player Billy Rath, as he was the speed freak of the bunch. The other 3 were starved for heroin tho, which was probably good in the long run because they were a really tight band then and cut a record on Track Records. They stayed a year and the dope started to appear, like the chicken and egg scenerio. I don’t know when this song was played, but I’m guessing heroin was still very much an American vice.
Dinosaur Jr always envoked the strangest feeling for me that I haven't quite gotten from any other band.
I agree, they always stood out for sure.
Watching this on acid is crazy
Notice how theres no applause at 6:25 - everyone where stunned and they're arms where paralyzed i swear
this is one of the best live recordings of thumb i’ve ever heard
This is one of the best live recordings period
J’s solos might not be the most technically inclined, I find that he knows how to pour feeling and soul into them
Some of his solo's actually are kinda hard.
He made it work even though the the G string went out of tune
They were so grunge. Even before grunge.
